Spin-phase interference, coherent superposition, and quantum tunneling at excited levels in nano-antiferromagnets

چکیده
The spin-phase interference effects are studied analytically in resonant quantum tunneling of the Néel vector between degenerate excited levels in nanometer-scale single-domain antiferromagnets in the absence of an external magnetic field. We consider a model for mesoscopic antiferromagnets with uncompensated excess spins for the more general structure of magnetic anisotropy, such as biaxial, trigonal, tetragonal and hexagonal crystal symmetry. This study provides a nontrivial generalization of the Kramers degeneracy for double-well system to coherently spin tunneling at ground states as well as low-lying excited states in AFM system with m-fold rotational symmetry around the ẑ axis. The energy level spectrum and the thermodynamic properties of magnetic tunneling states are found to depend significantly on the parity of the excess spins at sufficiently low temperatures. Possible relevance to experiments is also discussed. PACS number(s): 75.45.+j, 75.50.Ee, 75.10.Jm, 03.65.Bz Author to whom the correspondence should be addressed. Interference effects between Berry phase factors in spin tunneling systems have been discussed in recent Letters by Loss, DiVincenzo and Grinstein (LDG) [1] and von Delft and Henley (vDH) [2]. As physical realizations, LDG proposed tunneling of magnetic clusters, and vDH proposed an anisotropic spin hamiltonian and the Heisenberg antiferromagnet on the Kagomé lattice. In these examples, for cer...

Considering generalized concurrence as the criterion of entanglement, we study entanglement properties of superposition of two qutrit coherent states, as a function of their amplitudes. These states may attain maximum entanglement or no entanglement at all, depending on the choice of the parameters involved. The states revealing maximum entanglement also display the maximum violations of the Be...
متن کاملCoherent Control of Quantum Entropy via Quantum Interference in a Four-Level Atomic System
The time evaluation of quantum entropy in a four-level double- type atomic system is theoretically investigated. Quantum entanglement of the atom and its spontaneous emission fields is then discussed via quantum entropy. It is found that the degree of entanglement can be increased by the quantum interference induced by spontaneous emission. The phase dependence of the atom-field entanglement is...

The entanglement between a ?-type three-level atom and its spontaneous emission fields is investigated. The effect of spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) on entanglement between the atom and its spontaneous emission fields is then discussed. We find that in the presence of SGC the entanglement between the atom and its spontaneous emission fields is completely phase dependent, while in absen...
